I watched the movie “The House of the Spirits” last night. - TopicsExpress

I watched the movie “The House of the Spirits” last night. It’s on Netflix. And I would love to know how this movie has been out since 1994 and I only know about it now? And it’s just happenstance that I found it as I was just looking for something to watch, had never heard of it before. It stars Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Jeremy Irons, Vanessa Redgrave, Antonio Banderas, and Wynona Ryder, so I figured it had to be good. You know how Netflix does if you have it, they go by what you’ve watched in the past on there and how you rated it to give you a list of things they think you will like and it was one of them. Anything pertaining to spirits always intrigues me so I thought I’d give it a go. From the very beginning of this movie I was drawn into this it as if it were magic. The beginning you hear the voice of a grown daughter telling the story of her mother when her mother was a child. Her mother had the gift of being able to see things in the future and was clairvoyant. This seemed to be no big deal to anyone, other than people always sought her out to tell their future. The little girl was beautiful (in real life Meryl Streep’s daughter). One day though, she told her beautiful older sister that someone in the family would die and when it came true she vowed never to speak again. She did not speak for 20 years. On from the beginning when she was a little girl, up until she was grown and older, she had a wonderful ethereal quality about her and was very kind and good. I just LOVED this part of the movie. Al the while the grown daughter narrates this movie on and off about the story of her mother, her mother’s marriage, their life and the revolution that took place where they lived in South America somewhere. It’s an epic tale and full of lots of situations, but my favorite part is in the telling of this remarkable woman played by Meryl Streep, (who was the mother of the daughter that was telling this story). She was so angelic and special. So, I have a new favorite movie. I never knew it existed and its 20 years old. Now I simply have to buy the book. It has some political parts in it (the revolution and the socialist party, which I hate socialism), but that was only a speck in the movie that did not take away from it at all. The movie’s also a little graphic in places though. I absolutely could NOT find a trailer or any video clip that captures what I just said about this movie. I looked over the entire YouTube videos on it. This is the very best I can do, but it is SO much better than this video. This video is nothing compared to the movie. I’m so sad I have to escape by any means I can, and that is mostly good movies and books since I don’t drink or anything and drinking wouldn’t solve anything. However, Kaitlyn’s bottles of wine still stare at me from the racks. Has anyone seen this movie? “How much does a man live, after all? Does he live a thousand days, or only one? For a week, or for several centuries? How long does a man spend dying? What does it mean, to say “for ever?” Pablo Nerudo (this was Kaitlyn’s favorite poet and this quote is at the beginning of the book The House of the Spirits.”
