I went into an unfamiliar neighborhood today to go to Walgreens. While there, I went into a Chinese restaurant. Apparently school got out at noon, because teens were milling around this area with books and musical instruments. Two young men came into the restaurant and one wanted to buy a Sprite and order some food from the Oriental woman at the cash register. She asked him to pay in advance for the drink since he wanted his food to go. An argument commenced, where he was cussing at her, calling her names and yelling that he would pay when his food came. She kept insisting that he pay because she said kids do this all the time...order food and drink, then walk out with the drink and never come back. This 35 year old high school boy (lol) came over to me and apologized for his language with all sincerity, then walked back to the counter and proceeded to berate her again for not giving him his drink. He and his friend walked outside, bending over with laughter. My reactions? Fear, concern for the woman, concern for myself, concern for the young man...until I saw them go outside. What a jerk, but I was scared shirtless that if I said or did anything, it might be worse. I am almost afraid to go into unknown areas, but that is part of my job. I am afraid to have to stand near groups of teens or young people at theatres, etc. I hate being afraid. When I went to my truck, I saw about 6 kids walking around with long sticks in each hand. They were the sticks that the road crews put out to identify the edge of the road when it snows....which begins tomorrow!!! I wanted to tell them that they shouldnt pull those sticks up, but I was afraid theyd beat me with the sticks!!! lol I hate being afraid! I am ready to go back to working in the country and out of the city!!
