I went to Cornell Heights Middle School from 71-73. I was the new girl. I was in the Orange House and we rocked. In 72, we won Field Day. We had a guy, called Big Will (cant remember his last name) but he literally won the tug of war all by himself. The only thing I remember playing at recess was Tether Ball. When I was in eighth grade, I was a cheerleader and I won the talent show. I remember Mrs. Cockrell, Mrs. Brown, Mr. Nielsen. My home room and English teacher, Charles (and why does his last name escape my memory right now, must be getting old, lol), died in the middle of my 7th grade year. When I think of it, I will post it. Some of my classmates were Anita Jones-Smith, Terri Diggs, Michelle Lindsey, Cheryl Howell, Cassaundra Stovall, Carol Ogletree, Peter Torvik, Felicia Cassels, Michelle Mitchell, Steven Edwards, Angela Trammell, and several others. I used to live a half a block away from the school on Newton Avenue. I was devastated to learn that the school was torn down, along with my high school, Fairview, as well as several others. I remember Sharon Pretorius and how she disappeared during ninth grade. Glad to join the group, and hoping it can jog my memory.
