I went to David Amrams 84th Birthday Tribute to Pete Seeger last - TopicsExpress

I went to David Amrams 84th Birthday Tribute to Pete Seeger last night. It was a Benefit for Gold Coast Art Centers Arts Outreach program. - Produced by the heroic Jason Samel I felt something. It was a sense of how it used to feel when the Youth Culture was part of the Social Progress Movement. I came of age in that culture. We really felt we were on the crest of an important mission, and that it made a difference. Maybe it was a fantasy, but maybe not. Some people feel that the problem with the 60s was that is ultimately wasnt political enough (it became primarily social /fashion /self-oriented). I never used to think that, but Im beginning to. I guess there were different strains. These days there is a sense of hopelessness, dont you think? The slaughter, the ecological catastrophe, the social upheaval, pervasive personal dilemmas...the blind ambition of the rich and powerful... We need champions like Pete Seeger who can cut through our complacent muck of false success - Yes I like having a car, etc. But this thing is way gone. We need help. Thank you Jason for fighting the good fight. I dug the show!
