I went to Taylors Dixie Youth All-Star Ballgame tonight. I am a Grandmother so as a disclaimer I am going to say up front I am a little over the too when it comes to kids but I have to sound off! First our boys played great - we won 16-1. I am not necessarily sure that we are -that good or the other team was having a bad night but we played good. Here is my beef? Daddy coaches who SCREAM at the kids, I dont mean talk loudly to say hey Joey you need to look up or how about paying attention out there Sam. No it is more like WHAT the heck is WRONG with YOU! DO You want to sit on the Bench for the rest of your life? Are you crazy? Cant you be taught? Of course this is only at everyone elses children. It is noted the yells are toned down when headed in the direction of sonny boy? And then there is the issue with the rotation of players. We rotate good players in and out which is fine if you also rotated the not as good ones out or the ones with not as much experience but you dont because they are in the same gene pool as the coach. Then you have the crazy parent...the one in the stand that screams at his kid from the time the child gets to the dugout. The kid is a good ball player and his dad is constantly insulting him and telling him how to play, degrading him and what he is doing wrong! I love watching my Grandson play baseball. I love baseball! Parents are nuts! Tonight I stood between the dugout and the obsessive Dad so he would not yell at his son, I starred at the bossy coach - threw out league leadership names so that now he thinks I am the spawn of Satin. I am sure they are glad I am out of town the rest of the week and so is my blood pressure. Taylor - Knock the socks off of them tomorrow!
