I went to a cash machine this evening and a man was sitting with a cap on the ground nearby. I intentionally went to the furthest of three machines because I judged him without really looking at him, did not want his hungry eyes beseesching and imploring me to give him money. I was there a little while because I was using two cards. I began to acknowledge how judgemental I was being. I began to take a look at the guy. He was gaunt, sad, cold, not looking at me, had a bag of books by his side. I started to walk back to the car and thought to myself oh why not and I took a £20 from my wad of cash and went back, leaned towards him, dropping the note into his lap and said hey Ive had a lot of luck this week, and now Im sharing that luck with you. I turned to go to the car, but he called me and with effort stood up and came to me, tears in his eyes, saying oh miss, oh miss and he gave me a bear hug and clasped me very tight, saying thank you miss. People walking by stopped to look and I heard one person say oh how lovely. He continued to acknowledge me as I walked to the car, moving so he could keep me in sight and waved and bowed as I drove away.
