I went to hear the happiest man in the world speak last night. It was not as obnoxious as it sounds. He developed “some small recreational projects”, Vail, etc and then decided that despite his wealth, he hadn’t found happiness. Thus, project cure. Currently a huge organization that ships medical equipment and supplies literally across the world entirely volunteer and non-profit. Nothing in the ego-centered churches of entertainment and comfort where I had spent my life had ever ignited the compassion I was feeling . –An excerpt from The Happiest Man In The World His book speaks specifically of “The despair of selfish accumulation and the joyful adventure of relinquishment”. Impressive, but more impressive was his wife. Married 53 years , despite incredible personal accomplishments, remains humble, supportive and always the cheerleader. She connected with me and in the conversation she subtly hinted to her husband’s prowess. Then I connected with her. My ex called me a narcissist recently, hum; someone smart enough to choose me must be right. E-How says the definition is a term used to describe individuals with an unhealthy preoccupation with themselves, a sense of grandiosity and need for admiration, FRICK…I hope there is a pill for it. It must be the narcissism. In women, the signs are dramatic, overly emotional behavior that presents itself as extreme confidence. I now have a diagnosable disease; no longer do I have to take responsibility for my deficiencies. I feel relief. The five key components of Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD): 1. Lacks empathy, insincerity 2. Consistent arrogant behaviors 3. Envy of others and the belief that others are envious of them 4. Takes advantage of others 5. Unreasonable expectation of favorable treatment On the bright side, narcissists can be great leaders, charming and fun. Steve Jobs, Mark Wahlberg, Hitler and Stalin are a few. Many criminals, dictators and celebrities have narcissism. I will dive into the causes and the cures later. Basic research says that psychotherapy is a requirement, bummer, I was hoping for a pill. I have so much to learn. Pork Chop (the pig) bit me this morning; he must know I’m a narcissist.
