I went to my bank (RBC) to open a new account today, after joining the long line I finally arrived at the counter only to be told that I need to go upstairs and make an appointment, I also need to walk with two recent photos, a utility bill and my identification. There are no signs up indicating where I should have gone. I have been a loyal customer of this bank for over two decades. My salary has been passing through this bank since 1992. After all this time they apparently still dont know who I am. My next move is to write letters of complaint both to the local and Canadian management. After this I will be closing my account and giving up my credit card. I now understand why this bank is crying that theyre losing money, theyre chasing the customers away. Before entering a market you must do proper market research, you must understand your customer and your market, the management of this bank seems to be disconnected from their customers. It reminds me of an experience I had at Antilles Credit Union many years ago, I applied for a loan and was told I had to see the credit committee at 5.00 pm that evening. I arrived at the stipulated time only to realize that 30 plus people were also told to come at 5. Upon conclusion of my business I immediately dropped out of that organization.
