I went to open a new checking account today. I noticed that on desk there was a little sign that informed me that the Patriot Act required that I have 2 forms of ID and I would have to provide my home address. OK - I had that covered. Then the new accounts person scanned my passport and my driver’s license. A paper came out of her printer, and she handed it to me and asks me to verify that everything was correct and I was shocked it also gave my business address and phone number. Which I hadn’t given her. When we were done she ask if there was anything else she could help me with and I said yes. I want to open a visa credit card account so I can transfer a balance from another card with a high interest rate. No problem, she said, I will submit an application as soon as you leave I already have your credit score. Here is the irony. People are complaining about NSA collecting their calling information. Guess what folks any bank on the street can have more information on you in 5 min. than the Government could collect in a year. If you have a bank account, credit card, car loan or mortgage you are an open book to a bank. And some people actually believe the Government is the enemy. .
