I went to see the two new movies that started this weekend over the last couple of days and am surprised to say that I enjoyed The Lego Movie more that The Monuments Men. The Lego Movie was fun with a plot that changed as quickly as a childs imagination. I dont think it was quite worthy of the accolades it was receiving by the critics but it was nonetheless enjoyable and I rate it three stars. However, The Monuments Men is another story. Based on a true story of middle-aged soldiers tasked to save the many pieces of art taken by the Germans in the final year of World War II before they were destroyed by the Nazi Army who were being poor sports for losing the war. Despite a stellar cast featuring Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, John Goodman, Bill Murray, Bob Balaban and George Clooney this film is no work of art and just fizzles along and never really takes off. Ill blame Clooney who would have been better off just acting in the movie rather than directing it too. I cant help but feel a more experienced or talented director would have had better success working with this material and cast and not come up with such a muddled mess of a film. Sony Pictures was right when they moved the release date of this film from the Christmas holidays to February because its certainly no Christmas treat. Two stars is my rating for this disappointing film.
