I will be observing a Facebook-Free Thanksgiving this year. No pictures, no posts. Yall know what my family looks like. Photos of a tempting turkey meal with the teeming tons of tantalizing trimmings are all too trite. There is of course always the gratuitous photo of someone seemingly sneaking a pre-sit-down sampling of a hot roll, or one of someone peeling turkey skin off just to check it or some guy tasting oyster stuffing while they thought no one was looking which gets to be down right boring. Everyones seen candid snapshots of last minute prep work in the kitchen, some matriarch with her hair askew beating something into submission. Another shoulder deep in the sink conducting some type of surgery (or clean up after the operation) with beads of sweat dotting the forehead. A kid holding a casserole dish because he was told to do so with no idea where to go or what to do with it. He is always sporting a goofy face with the optional tongue stuck out feature noted some years. Those pics of folk sitting around the table, elbow to elbow, consuming mounds of ham, cans of cranberry sauce, pounds of potatoes and gallons of gravy with the perpetual one female attempting to hide from the paparazzi and one oblivious elder-male-fork-in-mouth capture has become cliche. Of course, there is always the two cute little girls with holiday dresses on caught mid-twirl, showing off their white stockings and patent leather shoes. And theres always that dessert table array of photos that blares over work and over consumption. Photos of stuffed, lazy relatives in tryptophan-induced comas passed out in chairs and stretched out on sofas while the TV blares some football game is so over done and around our place is NO Norman Rockwell quality painting, I assure you. An impromptu throng of competitors gathering around a Scrabble board with pie plate and coffee cup in tow is expected and not considered newsworthy here. So, this year there will be no album of the art of appetence assuagement always afforded all our acquaintances. No ode to the obvious. No posts pertaining to prosaic proceedings. Just enjoy your family and all their love. Ill enjoy mine. Have a wonderful, memorable & safe Thanksgiving! CHEERS!
