I will never forget a dinner party I was invited to as a young man. A soixante huitard parent of a friend of mine was going on about the struggles of the common man. I made the faux pas of asking him what those struggles might be. In a fatherly tone he told me: You don´t have to experience all those troubles to be concerned as a citizen. I replied: That might be true. Martin Luther King did not have to be a black man to give his famous I have a dream speech speech nor did the Icelandic womens party have to be only represented by women. I was embarrassed but made a simple point. Stick with what you know!
