I wish that I hadn’t just been to watch the Grand Budapest Hotel - TopicsExpress

I wish that I hadn’t just been to watch the Grand Budapest Hotel because then I’d be able to go and see it for the first time all over again. It’s written too cleverly and looks too good to have been made in Hollywood; movies like these are normally ‘foreign’ and subtitled in English. It’s brave and funny and full of great performances and lovely, quaint, detail. You’ll have gathered that I enjoyed it, let me know what you think. There’s only one more film from this week’s intake to tell you about, ‘All is lost’, starring Robert Redford. It could also be called ‘All the reasons you need not to go to sea alone on a tiny boat if you’re 77 years old’ or ‘An Idiot Aboard’. It’s not the first cast-adrift-on-the-cruel-sea movie, the clichés are all there but from different angles, but it’s probably the best. Unfortunately that doesn’t stop it being essentially boring in my opinion. I’ve one more movie to attend before I head up the coast but I’ll spare you a review on that as it’s already been well covered, given that it was made in 1941. ‘Citizen Kane’ is showing as part of a season of Orson Wells movies, I’ve never had chance to see it at the cinema so I’m really looking forward to it.
