I wish that the US Congress will work together to pass the residency training shortage bill. I am an International medical school graduate(2010) who has not got a residency position. According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, I am not the only one in this boat. There were 548 US Medical School graduates who did not get a residency position either. There were approximately 2100 US citizen international medical school graduates who did not get a residency position last year. US Medical student average $ 177,000 in student loan debt and US IMGs average about $ 200,000. I estimate that student loan debt for these medical students together is around 500 million. This seems like such a waste. Last year around 2100 non US citizens received a residency training position. I am sure that these medical students will become excellent doctors; but I do not think that we should forget about the 2,648 US citizens who spent 8- 10 preparing to become a medical doctor. We should not be left behind and forgotten. I thought the hardest part of this process would be getting into medical school and getting through medical school. I did not anticipate the problem of not being able to finish my medical training. Any suggestions?
