I wish to thank FOX news, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, and other right-wing liars for terrorizing my mother and causing her to hoard her meager income. My mother is just shy of 85; lives in the Obama-hating deep South; and lives off of Social Security, Medicare, and a very small pension from my deceased fathers employer. Earlier today, she mentioned in an email that next year shed need to spend most of her pension money on paying for ObamaCare. Naturally, I did a double take. Why would my mother need the ACA?!?! I checked just to make absolutely certain I was correct and, of course, I am. If you are on Medicare, you dont need to buy insurance through the ACA. Medicare meets the ACA requirements. The right-wing lies told about the ACA are legion. Yet, my mother votes strictly Republican. When her drivers license ran out, she was terrified of not being able to get a renewal because, she said, she would not be able to vote without a drivers license. She had to BUY a certified copy of her birth certificate in order to re-up her license because they would not accept her only original copy. These sorts of hoops are placed in front of people as part of right-wing measures to suppress voter turnout. Little do they realize how many of their own they are putting through the gauntlet. But, does my mother make the connections between her hardships, her hurdle-jumping, her ripe sense of insecurity and her own party? No. Its Obamas fault. Ignorance is not bliss. It is torture.
