I witnessed the strangest thing at Joys Dairy tonight. I brought - TopicsExpress

I witnessed the strangest thing at Joys Dairy tonight. I brought my daughters there for ice cream. While our order was being filled a man and his daughter rode up on bicycles.. He came to the window and told a tale of not having any money with him and asked what he could do, his daughter (a teen) really wanted ice cream. He offered to leave his phone at the counter as collateral for the ice cream. He would go home and get money. The girls at the counter were unwilling to make this deal as they had no authority to do so. He tried to charm them, explaining to them the art of a good business person. When the girls would not cave he asked them to call the owner to see if he could get his ice cream... In the end the owner said no. He would have to come back and BUY the ice cream. Rather than accept this gracefully, he told the girls he would not come back and would tell all his friends not to go get ice cream there. Mind you all the while he was never rude or disrespectful. Calm and like he was trying to be charming. But it felt rather disturbing and a bit creepy. The girls were nothing but polite and apologetic. They did their jobs the way they were taught. I have never experienced anything like that. I am wrong in thinking that there are not many store owners that would take a phone as collateral for any product so that the person could come back and pay later?!?
