I wonder if James M.Buthcher will be so quick to throw this reply around Personal reply to Cllrs Butcher and Buxton resignation letter This is MY personal reply to Cllr Butcher who has spent a lot of time to make sure the world and its wife see his and Cllr Buxtons resignation letter and has not been approved, or requested to be written, by Sompting Parish Council . As my name is included in the letter I believe I have the right to reply ! Primarily it needs to be noted that of the 3 signatories only 2 were serving councillors, the 3rd had already been removed as a councillor due non attendance ! Let us start at the beginning of their career as councillors … from day 1 they decided that they could not serve on both Lancing and Sompting councils, so chose to go to Lancing parish council meetings rather than Sompting parish council meetings , this meant that they could not serve on any committees, as the two councils clashed and only irregularly came to Sompting full council meetings where their input was minimal! The reason Cllr Wood said she would have Cllr J Butcher’s ‘Balls for earrings’ was that he was supposed to assist at the Sompting festival on the Sunday with the fun dog show ….. instead he did not bother to turn up, nor did he answer his phone all day .. thus leaving others to do what he had volunteered and promised to do … The reason Cllr Servante ( myself) ‘patronised and lambasted’ their young age, was that as the new youth of Sompting it was up to them to be the enthusiasm and drive of Sompting parish council …. But instead they preferred to use their enthusiasm in Lancing, whilst doing no more than pretending to play politics in a Parish council that has always been apolitical …(just suppose if Sompting Parish were going to vote that the sky was blue .. on principle these councillors would vote against it … a totally pointless waste of time on the few occasions they did turn up !) Did Cllr Tufnell really hurl abuse at the local MP ? an MP who made so few appearances, and only so HE could have a go at Sompting Parish council ..Even when he was in the wrong ! The ridiculous amount of committees .. Finance and General Purpose, Amenities and environment, Planning, Centre , Neighbourhood Plan ( lancing isn’t doing one ), Events (Lancing expects Adur or other groups to do this for them ), Not really excessive .. but essential to share the workload evenly! The time consumed at these meetings is immaterial … Sompting parish councillors all give their time totally FREE . (Unlike Lancing councillors who get an allowance) Responsibility to constituents … where the council is accused of neglecting this! From the ONLY group who actually want house building on the Sompting Gap. Which side of the fence for building on the Lancing flood plains are councillors Butcher and Buxton ? The misrepresentation by Cllr Butcher of the UKIP stance against the government figures, and Cllr Butchers inability to understand that ‘zero net migration’ means everybody in Sompting would stay, as the ratio of births and deaths was almost the same and the few extra houses needed could easily be filled and built from within Sompting! And as for Cllr Butcher complaining a UKIP councillor, (there is only 1) is not allowed to have an opinion about a precept rise is actually contrary to democracy ! (Of course it was right that Lancing should naturally have a precept rise) I have to presume Cllr Butcher voted in favour of this ! It appears that Cllr Butcher is under the impression there should only ever be one debate, a simple right or wrong debate .. Welcome to the real world where Sompting debate ALL angles on ALL discussions for EVERY resident of Sompting..and take every opinion seriously ! And then we come to the last paragraph … This appears to be the real debate .. Should Sompting roll over, and allow Lancing to take it over? ,This was the councillors biggest mistake! …and a task in which he/they failed, and have now run away ! He complains of the waste of money .. Such as the Harriett Johnson centre, which he would prefer to leave to rot ? or turned into flats? Or the fact Sompting believe the public toilets on the Sompting rec are an important amenity, and yes they do cost Sompting parish council money ! Does he think the Neighbourhood plan is a pointless waste of time and money … yet so many councils up and down the country feel it is important to safeguard their area ( not Lancing though) . Cllr Butcher assumes spending money on the car park of the Harriett Johnson centre is a waste, ( with no consideration for health and safety) but Lancing parish council is spending a fortune on Lancing beach green car park, value for money? ( as well as spending £20,000 on a small garden in Lancing that basically just needs mowing and TLC ) And Cllr Butcher .. just how much does it cost Lancing to have their Parish hall ? The Sompting precept is lower than Lancing .. the only reason it doesn’t look like it on paper is the ‘Special’ charge by Adur. This charge Lancing does not pay, yet expects so much more from Adur than they deserve ! The letter from Cllrs Butcher and Buxton is just another stunt .. which they think will help them onto their next step up the ladder … to Adur .. I for one dismiss the letter for exactly what it is … TWADDLE Dear James it takes 12 people to make Sompting parish council work sadly at least 3 decided that they did not want to be part of that 12 which begs the question ………… Why on earth did you bother to be on Sompting parish council in the first place ! Sadly your letter and the way it has been tossed around the internet just proves your immaturity. C D Servante
