I wonder what folks like Prof. David Labaree think about this - TopicsExpress

I wonder what folks like Prof. David Labaree think about this policy. I cant help but think about his course on the history of education in the U.S. and how this sounds like much of what weve seen in the past. First the elite sent their children to primary school, then the masses demanded access and got it. Then the elite sent their children to high school, then the masses demanded access and got it. Then the elite sent their children to college, then masses demanded and got access to a multi-tiered system that still stratifies. Yes, the financial barrier will be removed for these lower tiered credentials but will they be respected in the credentials market (i.e. the labor market)? This might give us a more educated workforce to be more productive but will it give us a less stratified society? I need to converse with some Ed School folks about this. Interesting stuff, for sure.
