I wont be reading too much into this. The article captures the imagination... but read this more as a marketing spiel to get people excited. The actual science behind it is really mainly driven by manipulation of mathematical models and not an actual physical demonstration. Theres no physical evidence as of yet for strings as far as I know. These studies are mainly theoretical derivations against mathematical model of strings (granted that they exist) and a geometric model of general relativity showing that these two models can be made consistent on a hypothetical mathematical model of a universe (A universe... not THE universe). Furthermore, the theoretical manipulation is for now merely a conjecture (not a full proof). Thus, from this perspective the conclusion sounds awfully iffy.
