I won’t allow APC steal my mandate –Fayose: Ekiti State Governor-Elect, Ayodele Fayose, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to stall his inauguration and install the Speaker of the state House of Assembly in his stead as acting governor. Fayose, who spoke with newsmen in Lagos State yesterday, on the heels of the disruption of the hearing of a suit questioning his qualification for the June 21 governorship election in Ekiti, alleged that the APC had recruited some members of the state judiciary to execute the alleged plan. Describing the disruption of the court hearing as regrettable, he said the people of the state were ready to protect the mandate they gave him to rule the state. He wondered why the judge hearing the suit against him suddenly started treating the matter in a “hurry.” The governor-elect urged the executive and judicial authorities to urgently intervene in the matter, warning that he would not allow any, “jankara judgement” stall his inauguration. His words: “The whole scheming in Ekiti is just about APC trying to obtain judgement through the backdoor after losing election on the 21st of June. You will recall that Governor Segun Oni’s tenure was truncated through these back-door judgements by some judicial officers, who are readily compromised, who can equally go as far as losing the rest of their career if and when politicians pay them off. “Ekiti people have spoken, they’ve spoken well. I came back last night (Tuesday); I wasn’t in the country, but I’ve been briefed of certain developments in our state. I want to tell you very clearly that we will not allow any jankara, back-door purchase of judgement to stall my inauguration. “Their target is to install the speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, claiming that Fayose is not qualified to contest. It will interest you that the judge delivered judgement on a preliminary objection, said he’s standing down for two hours and he’s taking the substantive matter by three, four parties and he wants to deliver judgement the same day. “I just want to say that it is regrettable that the process in the court was disrupted. It’s unfortunate. But don’t forget that the average man on the street knows what they want and they are equally more enlightened than before; when somebody will just come, pay a judge somewhere and ask for a back-door judgement to stall a process, to steal peaople’s mandate. We’ll follow all due process, we’ll go by all legal means to ensure that they do not reverse the mandate freely given to me by Ekiti people to lead them in the next four years.” Flanked by the former deputy governor of the state during his first term as governor, Mrs. Abiodun Olujimi, Fayose assured that he was not opposed to the judicial process, but insisted that such exercise must be made to comply with due process.
