I work in the television industry - If you like the concept of a show dont give up on it after the first show. The networks give the show a budget to make the pilot which is the first episode. After they decide to pick it up they may make some changes and adjustments with the writers and in rare cases even actors. When you see them get killed off in the second episode sometimes it means they did not test well. Wait until the 2nd or 3rd episode if you can. It might have a whole different feel.
