I worked my way through college as a gunfighter/stuntman at an Oklahoma City old-west theme park called Frontier City. It was in some ways the greatest job of my life. One summer day, we had a celebrity guest, an actor named Ed Nelson, whom we all knew from THE TWILIGHT ZONE and the popular primetime soap opera PEYTON PLACE (though he hated the soap-opera term). I dont know why he was at the park, but he was invited to join us in a gunfight and he did. Maybe a couple of us had seen celebrities before, but this was the first time we got to hang out and play with one. He was a nice man and he seemed to enjoy playing cowboy with us. His career and most of his fame are long over now, and what attention his passing might have garnered is lost amid the headlines about the deaths of Robin Williams and Lauren Bacall. But he was a fine actor and a very pleasant fellow during the brief moments I was with him, and I thought it good to note his passing. RIP. nytimes/2014/08/13/arts/television/ed-nelson-a-star-of-peyton-place-dies-at-85.html?_r=0
