I would appreciate it if anyone can clarify the marriage date for Henry J. Moak and Georgia Palmer on this page: bernehistory.org/FamilyFiles/Family.aspx?IndividualID=I26221. The source says ancestry, but I find nothing there. The Berne page says Henry and Georgia were married August 28, 1898. However, Henry married his first wife, my great-grand aunt Ida Gossman in 1888, per the Enterprise. Also per the Enterprise, they were divorced in 1901, Ida although entitled to alimony declined to accept it. She then became known as Miss Ida Moak, the common form adopted by divorcees at the time. The Enterprise also a year or so later states that Ida Moak visited relatives in Palmyra (her mothers family). (I am also aware that there were two Ida Moaks and at least two Henry Moaks. Ive got the right people, trust me.) After the divorce, Ida lived alone (drops off my paper trail after 1920), and Georgia and her mother Malinda Palmer Barber lived with Henry. (They all lived in New Salem, but the Moak-Palmer marriage info is on the Berne page.) After Henrys death, Georgia married a McMillen. If anyone can explain Georgia and Henrys marriage date, Id appreciate it! And of course, true to small towns, Henry is related to me by blood as well as his long-ago abandoned marriage.
