I would be willing to admit that, growing up, I took school for - TopicsExpress

I would be willing to admit that, growing up, I took school for granted. I enjoyed elementary and high school but I did not see it as a hard choice to go to school, much less to enjoy the people I met and continue feeling blessed knowing. This year I enjoyed the honor and privilege of helping 17 truly unique people, both young and not so young, obtain their GED for high school. Each of them had life choices they made, or unfortunate circumstances delay or hinder their ability to finish, or perhaps even start, high school. Life happens, and for each one of these people, it happened in a way they did not foresee. All 17 of them were successful over this last year in slowly working through the worksheets, the test exams they could work on at home or at work, working out how to solve problems, and beginning to understand how the world around us works in its own magical way. Most dont realize that up to late 2012, the GED was much easier to obtain. That changed in 2013 as the Department of Education decided to up the bar and make it more challenging to take and pass all four exams required for a piece of paper that allows people to progress to college. But these 17 people, all of whom I have a GREAT deal of respect for and feel extraordinarily proud of pulled it off. They all have amazing life stories, beautiful personalities and bring something truly great to this world. They have all passed within the space of a year. I would have told anybody that they were crazy if, a year ago, someone had suggested that next year a small group of people would successfully obtain the ability to move on to college just by sacrificing a small fraction of my time. I am truly in awe at the amazingly brilliant light these people bring and now, hopefully, can spread to this world. I am not a teacher; I am a computer programmer. I feel as if I learned a lot from each and every one of these truly awesome people as they have taught me more in this year about persistence, fortitude, endurance and the willingness to rise to the occasion. To them, as to all the people I know, I wish the best and brightest of holidays :-) https://youtube/watch?v=ktXT-ywX6N0
