I would bet the farm that the people posting in this discussion forum have eaten more pinto beans than any 250 other people in the United States. I wanted to share this story. About five years ago, I managed a small law firm in Washington, DC. One day there was a big deposition in our office and there were six or eight well dressed lawyers working the deposition. My boss had arranged for them to go out to lunch at this nice restaurant in D.C. during their lunch break. About noon time, I left my office and went into our kitchen area where I microwaved me a bowl of leftover pintos and a couple of pieces of cornbread from the previous nights dinner. When I was walking past the conference room, the deposition was breaking up and lawyers were milling around. I got my bowl of beans (with a big helping of chow chow on top) and was walking with it back to my office. One of these lawyers, dressed in his fancy suit says to me, Ill give you $25.00 for those beans and cornbread. I laughed and said NO DEAL. I then say to him, where are you from? He says you never heard of it, a little town in Southern, VA called Danville. I grew up eating pintos and cornbread three or four times a week. I told him where I was from and he laughed. His mama and daddy worked in the textile mills in Danville. We all have our commonalities and Ill guarantee you pinto beans was one of the biggest! I have said this before, but I hope I never have to go to the electric chair, but if I do, I am sure I will have pintos and cornbread as my last meal.
