I would especially love to hear from other non-native English - TopicsExpress

I would especially love to hear from other non-native English speakers but everyone are of course welcome to chime in! I saw this scene as gifs on tumblr earlier this week and havent been able to get it out of my head, the lines: Do you know how frustrating it is to have to translate everything in my head before I say it? and Do you know how intelligent I am in Spanish really struck a chord with me. Im for those who dont know Swedish and so I think in Swedish, I would love to be able to think in English but I dont seem to be able to. The result is that I too more or less have to translate everything in my head whenever I engage in any form of verbal or written communicating in in the English language. This does usually not cause to much of a problem when Im writing but it becomes a major issue when I engage in verbal conversations. I sincerely believe that we live in a world were people will consciously or subconsciously measure other peoples intelligence based on their English language skills. I have personally internalized this toxic belief to the point were I unwillingly find myself thinking of people who are bad at English as less intelligent than the people who are good at English all the time. I have because of these then internalized and subconscious beliefs fought very hard to become as fluent as possible in the English language and few things give me as an immense satisfaction as correcting the faulty grammar of a native English speaker in my head. I have only lately really started to question these toxic beliefs and hopefully attempt to unlearn them. Now I would especially to hear from other non-native English speakers, do you have similar experiences?
