I would just like to express how absolutely disgusted i am by the treatment my Mini Pom dog Chica has received by Oscar the vet at the clinic on the Med in Benidorm. I first took Chica there 2 months ago when her skin became very flaky, she started losing her fur and her eyes were red and sore. He didnt take much of a look at her which i took as a good sign (he seemed to know what was wrong with her straight away). He prescribed some eye drops and started her on a course of cortizone injections. After 3 weeks of injections she became very ill, diahorreha and fever, she wouldnt get up from her bed of anything. I was very scared so called the emergency number for him, he told me to bring her in at 10am when the clinic opened. Once there he explained this was side-effects of the cortizone injections and prescribed her antibiotics and said to come back in a week. A week latet she was a bit better so he decided to put her on a tablet form of cortizone that was milder for a month. That was 2 weeks ago, her skin still hadnt improved so i decided to take her to another vet for a second opinion. When i explained the situation to the new vet in albir he was in shock!! He couldnt understand why no blood or skin tests had been done as her symptoms led him to believe she had contracted leishmania. He did a blood test straight away which normally takes 10 mins to give a result. Within 3 minutes it had come up positive for the disease. The cortizone injections and tablets were probably the worst thing Oscar could have given her, as the disease had made her immune system very low and the cortizone was reinforcing that. It could have killed her. To say i am appalled doesnt even come close, i am furious!! To think i have actually bern paying to make my baby suffer more... but more importantly at the time that has been wasted!! Chica could have and should have been well on the mend by now but instead she has been getting worse. I urge all of you who have animals to never use Oscar....EVER!! Unbelievable!!!
