I would like to announce my one-day pick up tournament later today - TopicsExpress

I would like to announce my one-day pick up tournament later today on Florida Bike Polo Players. The date I chose is almost exactly a month away. Ive had maybe 20 people express interest in coming, but thats only among local clubs. Heres the basics: Im planning it for April 26 - Saturday between Critical Mass and Miami Bike Polo BBQ Sunday. This way, those who want to play polo all weekend can also play in Miami on Sunday. The tournament would take place in Weston on the mini courts (well take over at least two), with backup courts being less than 10 minutes away if there is a problem. We open registration - which will basically entail e-mailing a confirmation that youre coming sent to me. Im looking for a group from 36 - 48 players if possible. 36 players would make 12 teams, 48 - 16. Depending on how many register is how many rounds I create and how early we start that day. So if I get few - maybe I start around noon, if I get a lot we start at 10:00 AM. We need to try and keep things kind of incognito - at least dont make it look like an official tournament. No banners, few pop up tents - maybe just a couple - and we utilize the covered shades that the park already has. Also, keep beer drinking incognito - trash bags and coozies all around to keep it from getting messy. I would like to collect a $5 entry fee from most players - the money will go towards pizza for lunch and perhaps some bandanas/shirts and/or a cash prize for the winning team. We run as many rounds as possible while still leaving time for an elimination round of 8 teams. Give an hour break once we decide the final elimination teams so teams can rest and work on strategy together. Heres the deal on why Im sharing the idea with you guys. I would just like a few locals to be able to help me with some volunteer stuff to make the tournament go smoothly. We should have at least one official/unofficial local ref at each game who keeps watch the whole time and I will likely need a few brains that can hash out the most equitable and randomized system for deciding pick up teams and to keep track of results. I would also like a few DJs who can keep the music flowing throughout the day. I think Im going to call it the So Flo Polo Pick-up Pachanga How many of you locals would be willing to put in some volunteer time throughout the day in between your games to make this thing work smoothly?
