"During Hurricane Isaac (2012), the Gulf Coast was swarmed by out-of-state newscasters and weather forecasters. One of The Weather Channel’s representatives was located on our beach during the storm and, during his forecast, referred to Mississippi as the “land mass” between New Orleans and Alabama. Our people were not too happy to be referred to in such an offhanded manner. However, Mississippians, being the resourceful and resilient people we are, decided to give The Weather Channel a gentle poke in the eye, by adopting the term and making it our own. We at Landmassians celebrate the name and all that our people and our state stand for--and hope you will, too."
