I would like to outline my plan for Donora (1) Get elected as your next mayor. (2) upon being elected as the new mayor of Donora I would like to address council , the police dept & the fire dept along with the street dept & any other borough employees on my plans to start rebuilding are town. (3) schedule a town meeting for every one to attend & go over my plans & to listen to the feed back that you the people of Donora have to give me. John Lunt (5) I fill we have to secure the bank building across from the police station if we want to have any hope of ever getting a bank back in town. I have all ready addressed this with council on October,10,2013. I have also contacted many banks all ready & I will tell you some have said out write that they are not interested & others has shown much interest. I also want to point out this is the last bank building standing that would make a great fit for a bank as it has every thing needed to re-open the bank. It has a drive thru , it has parking & it is located in a great area.The PNC bank has been sold all ready & will soon become a Pharmacy that will serve the good people of Donora for many years. The citizens bank building does not have a drive thru or parking that would work for us not to mention that Hannas hardware is thinking about moving into that building. If you look around as I have we have a few choices that wouldnt cost as much as building a brand new building. option #1 uni-mart I have talk to the manager their & he expressed if we could help with grants they would be interested in putting gas in. option #2 The 6pack shop has put a lot of money into the town if we could convince them to put pumps in would be awesome as well. option #3 To build a brand new gas station in town with a grocery store near bye I have a perfect place with more than enough space to do it but we would have to buy a few homes at the beginning of town and tear them down to do it. I thought the same thing. I ask myself how in the world can I ever get a grocery store to come to Donora & if I was lucky enough to find one could we support it enough to keep the doors open for more than a year? The answer is yes we can. Lets face it people If we want a grocery store we need the help from other towns to support it right? Ask your self this who would come to Donora to shop when we have Walmart & Giant Eagle in Belle Vernon , Foodland in Monessen & Monongahela? The answer is clear. First Location Location Location. Ok your asking what Location The same location we talk about in #6 for a gas station option #3. As soon as you come into town were the first 7 houses on the right hand side are between McKean ave & the bi pass to the industrial park. THEIR IS AROUND 5 TO 7 ACRES THEIR. It is a perfect location for people not just from Donora to come to but also for people from surrounding towns to shop at. Ok your asking Mr. Lunt why would people shop their? Ill tell you Price & value = Bottom Dollar Foods. Their is none around and people love them. The closest store is in Mckesport Pa. I have talk to them all ready & they told me they couldnt commit to opening a store in Donora but they would talk to me again If & once I was elected as Mayor. I am sure you all seen the $400,000.00 grant Monessen just got. We need to hire a Grant writer. You see a grant writer only gets paid if he gets you grants. 2nd President Oboma still has money put aside for distressed towns like Donora.Their is a grant out their write now for 1 million dollars from food desert. It is for a town like ares to build a grocery store. We also can do some fund raisers as a community to raise money.Just like we did for the war memorial , just like we did for the Library , just like we did for Palmer park , Just like we did for the new fire truck we bought. Now we have a little over 5,000 people living here. So whats my plan on getting more people living here? First plan is every thing you have read above as we have to get done. So that people have a reason to come back to town & live here.Start with some of the opposite things we are doing right now. EXAMPLE when we buy houses off the tax claim what does that do for us as a town. (1) we stop getting property taxes from the person that owned that home. (2) We get stuck with paying to tear it down. (3) once we tear it down we have to keep the grass cut & maintain the sidewalks. We loss revenue from trash collection ,water & sewage witch in return drives the prices up for every one else in town. Now dont get me wrong some of these homes need to go this I agree 100% But some are still salvageable. Some of you may know Jim Palasaro he owns a lot of homes in Donora & apartments. He buys them cheap puts a good bit of money in them & rents them out or sales them. This keeps Donora making money in the form of wage taxes, sewer bills, water bills, & trash bills. This helps keep other residence within the towns cost lower.This also allows are population to grow.
