I would like to say that I am disgusted at the amount of uneducated ignorant people that were hating all over my post last night! I most certainly will not be selling on this page again. Let me put the truths up for you folks. FEMALE betta CAN live very happily in a community tank. I should know, Ive been doing it for a very long time! You have to be careful and do your research when adding any fish to your tank especially these but unfortunately most dont do that! Betta should be the last fish added to your tank to help prevent aggression. Females MUST be kept in a group of 5 or more as they form a hierarchy and any aggression towards each other is diluted out through the group. This DOESNT mean you can stick them in any tank with any fish! The below video of my tank last night shows them quite happily with tetras and harlequins but I have kept them with many other fish. The problems start when you stick them in with guppies and gourami like most people tend to do so of course your betta will chase and nip! No you absolutely should not keep a male with the females! The males build a nest in a separate tank and the female is added for a short while in order for eggs to be laid. If left in there the male will kill the female. In the wild they can swim away. There is no escape in a tank! These are completely different fish out in the wild so they can tolerate one another better, they have been selectively. Red to be the way they are in the shops today. A male is the one that is harder to place in a community tank thank you very much and most of you who have had all your fish killed have most likely had a male in you tank (sometimes they get sold as females as the shops dont have the knowledge to identify them) they can be successfully kept though and I have done it but it depends on the temperament of the fish and your current tank mates. If admin have an issue with this post then please message me before removing me as I am really very angry with the way people have just assumed I havent got a clue. I would urge you lot to go over to betta splendens uk, join up and ask some questions over there and get educated before coming on my post and being bloody ignorant!
