I would like to voice the thoughts of a multitude of Longhorns fans in calling for open competition at the quarterback position over the Summer and in the Fall. With David Ash missing the majority of the 2013 season and now the end of Spring practice due to a slew of injuries you can no longer trust that he will live up to expectations. During the best of times Ash has only shown flashes of his potential. With injuries slowing his development it could mean he never grows to be the QB he could be. Tyrone Swoopes has an abundance of talent and has looked good in the Spring. With a new head coach in the mix both players have the same amount of time in the system and are on an even playing field there. Swoopes may even end up with an edge there due to Ashs most recent injury. Had Ash not missed such a huge portion of 2013 and then gotten hurt again in spring I would not call for QB competition. There has been too much quarterback controversy in the past at Texas, but in this case it needs to happen. The only possible outcome is that both players elevate their game and you find out who the best man for the job is. If Ash cant handle having to earn the starting job even though its been his in the past then you dont want him under center. Let them play for it Coach Strong. Let them earn it. Hook em.
