I would love to hear you comments on this, especially my ministers and pastors: In 2 Samuel 12 the prophet Nathan comes to David and tells him a story about a rich man who had his own lambs, but took the lamb of a poor man. This is obviously about the sin of David with Bathsheba. Yet, David pronounces a sentence of death on the rich man. Then, the prophet tells David the story is about you, you are the man that is guilty of this crime! Now here is my observation: God uses the story to influence conviction in David and to convince him of his wrong so that when he honestly accepts the truth about himself, the converting power of God’s love toward him despite of his wrong can bring him to repentance and ultimately restoration (Etzel and Gutierrez; emphasize added). This story is not to encourage others to follow the same pattern of wrong, but is a story that presents hopes for those who are discouraged, despondent and feel they have no hope in this life because of their many sins, to come to understand that God still has a wonderful plan for their life if they will confess them and repent (Etzel and Gutierrez; emphasize added)!
