I write the following for the information of all those who know me and my involvement with the horse industry and to avoid any misunderstanding of the current situation between myself, my former wife and Monarch Park Arabian Horse Stud. On Thursday 28th November 2013, The Honourable Judge in the Newcastle Federal Family Court put the official stamp of approval on my Property Settlement Claim against my former wife Karen, who has now remarried and calling herself Mrs Karen Sutcliffe. It took me two years to get Karen far enough out of my head and my heart to launch proceedings against her to retrieve some of that which she took from me when she secretly left our family home and marriage on Friday 7th January 2011 after kissing me goodbye that very same morning and telling me that she loved me but had a removal truck hidden around the corner waiting for me to leave. My main purpose was not so much what I could get back from her but was more for me to finally find the strength to stand up and hold her accountable for her cruel and deceitful actions by saying “You can’t lie to me, steal from me and hurt me and then simply walk away” With this in the forefront of my mind, anything I ultimately did get back was a bonus. When I began my claim my lawyer instructed me to write out a detailed Affidavit of all the years Karen and I were together and he said to me that he did not mind how long it was but emphasized that it had to be truthful and factual. Karen, in turn was obliged to respond however as she could not dispute the facts contained in my Affidavit she proceeded to concoct a series of fabricated stories in her defence that, when I read it, had me in total disbelief that my former wife, who I had trusted and loved above all others, could invent and claim such wicked things. I have since shown her Affidavit to our many friends who knew us in our marriage and who know the real truth. Karen has lost the respect and true friendship of each and every one. Following the lodgement of my claim in the Federal Family Court it was necessary for my Lawyer to engage a Process Server to serve Karen with the court documents however when he called at the Uralla home that Karen had moved to when she left our marriage, he discovered that she had again secretly moved from that address some 4 months earlier and no one knew where she had moved to. This gave my Lawyer a serious and possibly costly problem until a wonderful group of Ladies from the Dressage and Arabian world who knew the dilemma I was faced with, voluntarily got together when one of them saw an advertisement on the “Gumtree” Internet site where Karen was trying to sell her wedding dress. Without my knowledge a phone call was made to Karen on the number she advertised on the pretext of being interested in buying the dress. This clever ruse resulted in obtaining the new address which was then given to me and subsequently, two days later, the Court Papers were served. I am deeply indebted to the kindness and support from these ladies. The ownership of nine horses were in dispute and the Arabian Stallion “Unforgettable ERA”, the two mares, “River Oak Heart’s On Fire” and “Daycara Amiriqua” and the two fillies, “Amirage” and “Juliette” were ordered to be transferred into my name. Karen had transferred the remaining four horses that she and I had bred together over the years, into the name of her daughter Aimee Kable soon after she secretly left our marriage for obvious reasons and I agreed that they could remain in Aimee’s name. I also agreed to finalise the transfer of the jointly owned mare “Monarch Park Amethyst” to Leanne Mitchell. By order of the Court Karen is no longer permitted to use the stud prefixes of “Monarch Park” and “MPA” apart from the horses already so named and is ordered to have no further dealings in, or involvement with, Monarch Park Arabian Horse Stud. I did consider repossessing my Trailblaser Horse Float that I bought with funds from my inheritance that I received from my deceased parents estate in 2005 and which Karen took when she left however I saw that it had not been treated kindly over the years and is in a rather poor condition and was not worth the continued legal costs to retrieve it even though my Lawyer assured me that I would get it back along with everything else that Karen took if I chose to pursue it. I have now acquired a new “Imperial” De Luxe Two Horse Angle Load Float with which to continue my activities in the Arabian horse world. At my insistence Karen did reluctantly return one new mahogany reproduction bedside cabinet that I had bought as a matching pair with funds from my inheritance. I had retrieved one of the pair soon after she left and wanted the other, as they are a set. Karen sent the cabinet to my lawyer’s office wrapped only in a single sheet of cardboard with no protective packing and it arrived quite badly damaged. When my Lawyer complained to Karen’s Lawyer she responded that it was a damaged second hand piece of furniture when we bought it. The true fact of the matter is that it was a brand new reproduction piece and we bought a number of matching pieces of furniture of the range from the manufacturer. When Karen took it from our home it was as new and undamaged. I am so sad to realise that she is prepared to tell one lie after another. You think you know someone and then realise you don’t know them at all. There were other items that had been in my possession since long before I met Karen such as my son’s computer desk and bookcase that both Karen and Aimeee had continually used all the years of our marriage and which she took with her when she left but when I asked for their return she now denies any knowledge of such items! My lawyer told me to put it down to a very sad and bitter experience and forget them, as it was not worth the legal costs of recovery, a fact I am sure Karen was well aware of. For the same reason, I did not get back the many thousands of dollars that were stolen from our joint bank account before she left nor did I get my 50% share of the sale of our jointly owned mare “Monarch Park Amethyst” amounting to $3750.00 that Karen arranged with Leanne Mitchell the night before she secretly left our marriage. Karen took the full sale price of $7,500.00. This result brings all the legalities of our separation and divorce to an end. Karen moved on from our marriage long before she actually left and is now living with yet another new husband, her fourth, in her big new house in Uralla. Karen continues her own activities in the horse world including “Judging” at some shows under her new name of Karen Sutcliffe. Over the last few months my life has at last started to change where I can now finally move on and look forward to a brighter and happier future but nothing can erase the memory of all the lies and treachery of the past years. I just have to learn to try and put it in the past and live for the future however I will never forget and I will never forgive. Friends of both Karen and I during our years together have all told me that Karma has a way of coming back and will take care of it all in the fullness of time and those who caused such great suffering will, themselves, suffer. I certainly hope so.
