I wrote a post on Elant, Inc.’s page and they deleted it so I will write it on my own. Feel free to comment. My mother has been a resident for a year this month. There have been numerous issues but the one that I can just not fathom is that they are under staffed as far as the aides that are designated for each shift. Apparently they feel four is enough and have been working towards five for a unit that hold 40 residents. Five will not do the trick. The night shift has two aides for 40 patients. I have nothing amiss to say about any of the individual nurses, aides or therapists that are employed at Elant. I think the majority of them do their best at their job. My issue is that it is physically, mentally and emotionally impossible to “provide personalized, high quality care” when one aide is responsible for 8-10 people. My mother has to wait and hope someone will take her to the bathroom during the day. In the morning, they have told her to wait while they tend to other issues before taking her to the bathroom. Can you wait first thing in the morning? Imagine being 92 years old and being told to wait. The aides are the most important contact the residents have and they depend on them for their every day care. An aide cannot give 100% if they are in a rush to tend to the needs of other residents they are responsible for. It is physically impossible. These aides make minimal pay. It would not break the bank to put more aides on staff for every shift. They could provide better physical, mental and emotional care to all the residents. I spoke to the new administrator and her statement was that they are all sleeping at night so more aides are not necessary and not all of them need to be toileted. These remarks lead me to believe she is clueless. Most older people do not sleep through the night and over 95% need to be assisted using the toilet. Hello…that is why they are there! Elant’s mission is to provide personalized, high-quality care and lifestyle options to persons of diverse generations, cultures, and needs. I would like to see this happen and they should put their money where their mission is, add more aides to each shift, and give these elderly people the care that they deserve!
