(I wrote this POEM in June 2010, when the House of Reps was like a boxing ring. In the light of what happened in Rivers State House of Assembly, I thought it proper to publish it again.) PARLIAMENTAL With deep sorrow And dim hope for tomorrow, We mourn the dearth of decency In every federal constituency; Sorry, but we have become hostages To a wanton brood of savages, Who invaded the people’s House, Pillaged it like a ravenous mouse And turned that Chamber of law, Our National Assembly, the hallowed Floor, Into another theatre of war; There lurk scorpion-like creatures that sting And fighters in their boxing ring; Who’ve replaced debates with damages, Bearing blows, bruises and bandages; Since democracy has become all anarchy, Give me autocracy or monarchy; Honorables? Whom do these men serve? Pardonables, or what name do they deserve? Psychiatric patients? Lawmakers? Or more appropriately lawbreakers? My people, what need we do to see their backs, Ballot, bullet or barracks?
