** IAG DIVISION 2 GALA REPORT** The Irish Age Group Division 2 Championships were on last weekend and COB had 6 swimmers competing over the 3 days of competition. This was the penultimate gala of the year for COB and it could not have gone any better. Ellie, Emma, Fionnuala, Georgia, Zara-Jane and Theo competed in a 32 races and we had 30 PB swims, 13 Top 8 finishes and 1 Gold and 2 Bronze medals. This is an exceptional result considering last year we had 3 swimmers and 1 top 8 finish. Georgia and Zara-Jane kicked things off with their 400 IM’s, this event brought COB its first medal with an amazing swim from Georgia. She finished with a 6.03.4, which was a 5.8% improvement and was good enough for the bronze medal. Georgia approached the race with a positive attitude and has shown huge improvements in her butterfly. Georgia continued her great form the whole way through the meet with great PB’s in every event and a huge smile on her face the whole weekend! Zara-Jane was her usual chatty self for 3 days… although when she got up on the blocks she was on fire. She kicked things off with by achieving her Division 1 QT in 100 Breast along with a 3% PB and a time of 1.27.5 and a final swim. Zara swam this race with huge determination and put all her training to good use. She swam a big range of events and showed great form in all strokes. Emma had a quiet first day where she had to anchor the 4x50 Medley relay and posted an impressive time of 32.5. Emma was like a stick of dynamite the whole weekend waiting for her 100 Freestyle! Emma swam so fast she achieved 2 PB’s in 1 swim. She was out so fast in the 1st 50 she turned right on top of her 50m PB then finished with a 3% PB in her 100 with a time of 1.11.7. Emma has shown great improvements over the year and deserves all her success. Theo has improved at an incredible speed over this year and finished off an amazing year with 3 great swims. He was in a tough heat in his 400 free and held his own against older swimmers. He also turned on top of his 200 PB at the halfway mark and finished with a 5.57.2. His 200 Back was also a great swim and again wasn’t phased by any of the older swimmers in his races. Excellent work Theo! Fionnuala is another swimmer who has improved drastically over the year. She has quietly moved through the rankings and has finished up the year in an excellent position to start next season. Fionnuala had the biggest improvement out of everyone in her 200 Back where she achieved an 11% PB and a time of 2.54.8. A perfectly split race brought this huge PB and with a bit more work on turns she still has a lot more in the tank! Ellie had a very busy 3 days as she competed in 12 races! Ellie won Gold in the 400 Freestyle with an amazing swim of 5.30.8 and a Bronze in 100 Fly and another big PB in the final. Ellie took the whole weekend in her stride and did exactly what Iain asked of her in every race. Her 200 Freestyle final was a very exciting race where all 8 girls swam their hearts out. Ellie saved everything up to the end and finished the season in style! We would like to congratulate all the swimmers, you have all had an amazing year and half been an absolute joy to coach. This was a very enjoyable gala and was great to see so much fun both at and away from the pool. Enjoy your summer and we both look forward to seeing you all in September. Conor & Iain
