ICA Working on International Dr. Directory The International Chiari Association (ICA) currently has a U.S. Doctor Directory with 113 doctors with experience treating Chiari. Now the ICA is working on a directory with doctors outside of America. We are proud of our directory, which is the most thorough in the Chiari World, said ICA Founder/President Pete Dal Bello. In addition to names, we have their office addresses, phone numbers and fax numbers. My favorite part of the directory is that we include the doctors web page so patients can learn about the doctor before their appointment even takes place. Dal Bello said that the international directory will be very similar and that the goal is for it to be added to the web site in early June. The sooner we can add another quality section to our site, the better, Dal Bello added. The ICA works seven days a week and we always have a sense of urgency. There are so many people that are relieved to find an excellent doctor near them in our directory. We are always updating the directory to make sure that is always accurate. We are also always adding doctors to it. One of the biggest myths in the Chiari World is that there are only a handful of doctors that can treat Chiari and the ICA has proven that there are many doctors that can treat Chiarians. My own neurosurgeon, Dr. Larry T. Khoo, who did my decompression surgery in 2009 and saved me from needing a wheelchair, is only listed in our directory. When I saw a neurosurgeon in town, he recommended that I see Khoo and that is how I learned about him. I live in Santa Barbara and Khoo, at the time, was at UCLA in Santa Monica. Today, he is in private practice in downtown Los Angeles and is one the ICAs Medical Advisors. Fortunately, he is nearby because if I didnt see him my only options (since this was before the ICA existed) were to go to Colorado or New York. That is one of the many reasons why the directory is so important to me.
