IF NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS DONT WORK... By Dr Carl Balita We make resolutions as we face a new year, but we forget about it even before we achieve the change. We make a list to make ourselves conscious of these resolutions but end up losing the drive to change, if not the list itself. Here are some suggestions on how to make these New Year Resolutions work: 1) Dont just focus on the WHAT and the HOW. You have to clarify the WHY!!! If the why is big enough, the how is going to be easy. You will be driven NOT by the resolution but by the REASON why you are resolving to change it this year. Dont just resolve to save money! You have to identify a reason WHY you need and want to save money. Visualize it! 2) Make the resolution PUBLIC! Communicate and commit the resolution to your friends, family and to other people who will exert pressure on your movement towards it. Use social media to publicly commit it. 3) Write it down and post is in a place so you can see it everyday as a reminder to it. Use it as a screen saver or ref list. 4) Ask for help. If resolution is tough, ask support from people around you not only to remind you of it, but also to make available some support as you may need along the way. Make them appreciate how important it is in your life. And give them the power to pressure you towards it. 5) Make change a lifestyle. Dont change only to achieve the resolution but also to integrate it into a lifestyle. If you are losing weight through dieting, expand it by engaging an active lifestyle which involves sports, gym, and other fitness activity. If it is a lifestyle change, it will be fun and you will keep it longer than the year. 6) PRAY for it. If you like it so much, and you do it so well, God will be with you to support. This is the most important!!! Tomorrow, i will write about WHAT IS AN ALTERNATIVE TO A NEW YEAR RESOLUTION, for those who do not relieve in it....(if i gain a thousand LIKES or shares for this one).
