IF YOU FILLED IN OUR ON-LINE SURVEY, YOU WILL BE INTERESTED IN THE FOLLOWING ITEM THAT WILL APPEAR IN THE NEXT OLD SCHOOL NEWS. PERHAPS THE LAST PARAGRAPH IS THE MOST RELEVANT. You may be aware that the Trustees recently conducted an on-line survey canvassing views on the Old School. The overall purposes were to see how the Old School is being used and to gather information about the types of services and facilities that Old school users would like to see in the future. Fifty people took the time to complete the survey and they are to be thanked for their time and effort. The responses have been collated and were discussed at the last meeting of the Trustees. For those interested, a copy of the survey results can be obtained through the Old School Office or by e-mailing Deri Parsons (derrick.parsons@btinternet). What can we learn from the results of the survey? It’s no surprise to hear that the Old School is seen as a valued community resource and that what is currently being offered attracts generally good support from the respondents. When it comes to the future, plays, comedy evenings, talks and educational programmes feature prominently, as do providing more community services and more activities for young people. What will the Trustees do with the information gathered? We are keen that the Old School continues to meet the needs of our community and the information from the survey will be taken into account as and when we are making plans for the future. Some very good suggestions, shared by a number of people, were made in the survey and it would be great if some of these can be put into practice. And this leads us to a very real problem. Our ability to provide more is constrained by the resources we have available. Money is tight, yes, but grants are available for well-constructed and worthwhile applications. Realistically our existing pool of volunteers are probably over-committed as it is and our biggest problem will be in getting people to volunteer to help initiate and run new activities. Perhaps YOU can help? Why not take a look at the survey and let the Old School Office know that YOU would be interested in getting involved. Unless YOU, and others in the community come forward, the Trustees will find it very difficult to respond to many of the good ideas arising from the survey.
