Our friends at the Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center are at it again, this time urging their flunkies to sign on to the campaign to defeat HB/SB 76. See the trash below that came in an email today. This organization is despicable beyond belief as they do everything possible to protect the wealthy, powerful special interests that they represent while callously ignoring the plight of struggling homeowners from across the state. We need to do everything possible to oppose their lies and distortions. PLEASE spread the word about HB/SB 76 to as many people as possible and have them visit the PTCC webpage at ptcc.us for details of the legislation. If you wish you can also send an email with your thoughts on their campaign to the PB&PCs Director, Sharon Ward, at [email protected]. Heres their email with links added: In legislators first week back in Harrisburg in a long time, they moved along two bills with enormous and opposite implications for education in the commonwealth. One of the bills, narrowly nudged out of committee by a 6-5 vote, ultimately would drain billions of dollars in funding from Pennsylvanias public schools. The other bill, long delayed, would save Pennsylvanias largest school district from further draconian cuts. A Sleeper Bill That’s Bad for Schools is Roused Out of Committee… The Senate Finance Committee voted to advance SB 76, a property tax elimination bill, to the Appropriations Committee, which is often the last stop before a vote before the full Senate. To compensate for the lost property tax revenue, this bill would increase the earned income and sales taxes and expand the sales tax to include such essentials as food and childcare. And it still wouldn’t replace all the lost funding to schools. To find out which six senators voted to advance the bill, click here (goo.gl/n1vZvI). For more information on what’s wrong with this plan, visit PA Taxpayers for Good Public Schools (goo.gl/ecNFjH). And to do something about it, sign on to the campaign (goo.gl/llig4T).
