IF YOU STILL PAY FIXED CHARGE AND BILL FOR YOUR METER, YOU ARE BEEN MUGURIZED In my last writeup on Why bye-passing my meter is justified I did mention various authorities that have demanded the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to stop the collection of the monthly Fixed Charge which N750 is the minimum, they refused, having dragged them before these authorities by the Edo Civil Society Organisations. Among such authorities were the Edo State House of Assembly, The Oba of Benin and the Governor of Edo state. The management of BEDC called them all bluff, disregarding these authorities, I forgot to add that the regulatory body which is Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had also asked them not to collect the Fixed Charge if customers did not get power in 15 days at a stretch or cumulatively which means having power in a minimum of 12 hours a day (which is still difficult to achieve now) all these were attempts to pacify angry customers. Below is a link to NERC website where they gave the order even though the Civil Society disagree with the fraudulent approach by the NERC, the Civil Society stand is total abolition. Myself and other progressive comrades have been on Bye-pass since the BEDC have refused to heed to the voice of these authorities, until we are billed for energy consumed, we shall continue to enjoy free power.
