IF you can set aside your biases about religion in general and/or - TopicsExpress

IF you can set aside your biases about religion in general and/or more narrowly about Catholicism and the papacy, then I strongly RECOMMEND this thoughtful article. It asks several important questions such as whether there is a liberal temperament (and if so, what is it?), as well as whether we should eschew the use of terms such as liberal and conservative entirely and it also suggests that liberalism has its own flaws. As I would expect from Commonweal Magazine, a Jesuit magazine, this article also demonstrates how disagreements can be articulated and examined respectfully and fairly, something that seems to be a near dead art today. And BTW: DO NOT swamp me with rants against religious belief or either adoration or contempt for this pope -- Im not interested in your atheism, agnosticism or deism. Im mining this article for its nuggets of gold apart from any discussion about the pope and faith or no faith; this article has much to say beyond those things.
