IGP Denies Disruption of G7 Govs Meeting Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Abubakar yesterday denied ordering the disruption of the G7 governors meeting in Abuja on November 10. On Sunday November 10, the Divisional Police Officer of Asokoro unit CSP Nnanna Amah had led his men in about four trucks to storm the Kano State Governors lodge at Asokoro where the G7 governors were meeting. CSP Amah was initially refused entrance, but when he eventually met with the governors, he reportedly said he was acting based on orders from the above. Following the incident, the House of Representatives summoned the IGP after adopting a motion by Rep Idris Kutigi to ascertain the circumstances leading to the police invasion and report back to the House within two weeks. But appearing before the House Committee on Police Affairs yesterday, IGP Abubakar said CSP Amah was not directed by anyone to go and disrupt the governors meeting, but that he was only carrying out his duties. He added that as far as he was concerned, none of his officers gave any such directive. He said: The DPO was not sent by anybody. He was there merely to provide security. The place is a governors lodge, and it requires maximum security. Also, the police officer in charge of the zone, Suleiman Abba, told the committee that in the wake of the incident, he inquired from CSP Amah who said he was at the governors lodge to carry out his duty. He said the DPO told him that his main reason for going to the lodge was to monitor security. Members of the committee however doubted Abbas submission, saying the governors have their security personnel who always move with them. Abba in his response said the ADCs may not be able to provide adequate security for the environment as their attention usually remains on their principals. The committee led by Rep Usman Kumo (PDP, Gombe) expressed dissatisfaction with the situation. The lawmakers are expected to submit their report to the House next week.
