IHSS Consumer Union Applauds CFILC -- On Behalf Of the IHSS - TopicsExpress

IHSS Consumer Union Applauds CFILC -- On Behalf Of the IHSS Consumers Union comprised of 724 IHSS Consumer Seniors and People with Disabilities, and Rank-And-File IHSS workers, we applaud your principled and courageous reaction to the unions regarding their withdrawal of participation and sponsorship of Disability Capital Action Day, if people with disabilities mentioned their feelings about the 75 hours of mandatory training ballot initiative. Thank you for standing up and saying that: No one can buy our silence! So many of us cant get to Sacramento because of our physical challenges and our poverty. We know you will do a wonderful job educating our legislators about how precious IHSS is to us as the active implementation of our Disability Civil Rights movement under the Americans With Disabilities Act. We know you will educate those who do not know, about our Independent Living Principles. About our rights to determine who will care for our bodies and how that care will be administered. Tell our legislators that we escaped from nursing homes and we will not be made patients in our own homes. That IHSS services in California is a social program that should be exported throughout the nation as a model of cost-efficient long-term services and supports that give Seniors and People with Disabilities with the same rights as any American: The right to choose. Tell them that we will have self-determined lives where we make the choices about how our bodies are treated, and how the people we employ are trained. If we want help with that training, voluntary training should be available. Tell them that the IHSS program has the widest diversity of needs, and that one-size-fits-all policies underserve the frail and extinguish the civil rights and independence of those who are more than capable of being the pilots of their Consumer Directed Care! Tell them that We Are Not Sick; We Are Disabled. Tell them that We Are Not Sick: We Are Senior Citizens! And when we are sick, we will make the choices about the medical care we seek, and should not be robbed of them by those who would deny us informed choice. Tell them that we will not let people make our homes into out call nursing homes. We will continue to enjoy the long term services and supports that give us the rights we won through decades ofs struggle and victory under the Olmstead Supreme Court decision. And we know you will educate them that nothing about us must be permitted happen without us! Thank you for showing that our silence cannot be bought. We shall overcome!
