IIM-A slides down in FT Masters in Management Rankings The ranking of the premier Indian Institute of Management-Ahmadabad (IIM- Ahmadabad) came down by 8 places to 18th rank, as per the Financial Times Masters in Management Rankings (FT Rankings) of 2013. The leading 70 general management programs, which do not have the prerequisite of past work experience to gain admission to the masters’ program (pre-experience Masters Degrees) are ranked by the FT report. The rankings assign importance to few key parameters. Few of them are: career value for money weighted salary in US dollars international students as well as faculty length and fees of courses success of placements women students as well as faculty This year, IIM-Calcutta (at 19th position) is the only other IIM or a managment institute from India to feature in the list of 70 global business schools (B-schools). As per the FT Rankings, IIM-Ahmadabad and IIM-Calcutta have acquired the rank due to their flagship post graduate program in management (PGP). With this achievement, IIM-Calcutta marks its debut in the FT Rankings. Moreover, it topped the charts for Finance courses. As per the rankings, the IIMs of Calcutta and Ahmadabad have scored above some esteemed global universities such as London School of Economics and Political Science, Manchester Business School, Copenhagen Business School, etc. IIM-Calcutta is also striving to gain accreditation from the prominent global agency “The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)” to fulfill its ambition to become an “International Centre of Excellence in Management Education”, which will help it attain global status as an academic institution. IIM-Calcutta has also become an academic associate of CEMS, which is a premium club consisting of 28 top B-schools of the world. As per IIM- Ahmadabad officials, the parameters on which the institute lost out in the rankings include share of international board members, share of women students, international students and international faculty. IIM-Ahmadabad had featured in the FT Rankings for the first time in 2010 when it acquired 8th position. Thereafter, it acquired 7th rank in 2011 and 10th position in 2012. With regards to the rate of pass-outs who gained employment within a mere 3 months of graduating, both the IIMs secured a 100%. IIM-Calcutta was ranked number 2 in Economics whereas IIM-Ahmadabad was ranked at 8th position for the same. Moreover, IIM-Ahmadabad has secured 4th position for Marketing.
