IKO Nationals 25th August 2013 - A Great Success Last Sunday saw the IKO Nationals held at Gymea Trade Union Centre in Sutherland, NSW. It was a well attended tournament and some very strong fights. From Brisbane we had Sempai Adam, Ben Leece, Sam Robb and Carla Macdonald. It was the women first for the Brisbane Dojo with Carla taking out her division in around 8 seconds with a Jodan Mawashi Ippon. Well done Carla. Sempai Adam was first up against the light weight fighter from New Caledonia. It was a very even match until his opponent caught sempai Adam with a spinning crescent kick and received a half point. Its very hard to come back from this position as you basically have to knock the person out to win. Sempai Adam fought extremely well against a very strong opponent. Sam and Ben fresh out of the novice division both came up against very strong and experienced fighters. Both of them showed great courage and did themselves and their dojo very proud. Not easy to come up against the previous winners in the first round. Thats the luck of the draw and soon they will be the experienced ones giving the newbies a touch up. Fantastic day for Kyokushin Karate and the Brisbane Dojo. Photos to come. Next up we have the annual blackbelt grading on Sept 28th. So on with the show....... OSU
