ILM-E-GAYB AND HAAZIR – NAZIR, Does Prophet Muhammad have Ilm-e-Gayb and is he Haazir Nazir? 12/01/2011 23:47 Answer. (partly summary) Many people have a belief that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) had Ilm-e-gayb i.e. the knowledge of the unseen and he has complete knowledge about the unseen and he is even fully aware about all that is happening all throughout the world. They believe that he is Haazir-Naazir i.e. he is present everywhere and is seeing everything right since the time before Adam’s creation till today and even in the future. Let us analyze in the light of the Quran and the Sunnah how correct this belief is: (summary) 1. He did have some part of the knowledge of the unseen e.g. prophesized Ashra-e-mubashira, saw several things of the unseen during Miraj etc. even that was only from Allah. 2. Only Allah has Ilm-e-Gayb as stated in the Quran in Surah Anam 6 : 59 “With Him are the keys of the unseen, the treasures that none knows but him” Surah Naml 27 : 65 3.Muhammad (SAW) does not have ilm-e-gayb: The Quran says in Surah Anam 6 : 50 “Say I tell you not that with me are the treasures of Allah, nor do I know what is hidden (gayb), nor do I tell you that I am an angel - - -.” Surah Araf 7 : 188 says “Say “I have no power over any good or any harm to myself except as Allah wills. If I had knowledge of the unseen, I should have multiplied all good and no evil should have touched me.” 4.Haazir Naazir: Surah Yusuf 12 : 102 Allah says “Such is one of the stories of the unseen, which we reveal by inspiration unto thee: nor wast thou (present) with them when they concerted their plans together - - -.” Surah al-e-Imran 3 : 44 “This is part of the tidings of the unseen which we reveal unto thee by inspiration thou wast not with them when they cast lots with arrows as to which of them should be charged with the care of Mary: Nor were thou with them when they disputed their point.” Surah Hud 11 : 49 “Such are some of the stories of the unseen which we have revealed unto thee unto thee before this neither thou nor thy people knew them.” Allah (SWT) is telling us that the Prophet was not present on this occasion and on that occasion. Some people today say that the Prophet was and is present everywhere. Who is telling the truth – Allah (SWT) or these people? 5.Miraj: Surah Isra 17 : 1 “Glory to Allah who did take His servant for a journey from the sacred mosque to the farthest mosque- - -.” If prophet Muhammad is present everywhere then why did Allah have to take him from the sacred mosque to the farthest mosque (masjid e Aqsa)? Did He not know that his Prophet is present everywhere? 6.It is reported in Sunan Nasai and it has been authenticated by Albani in his book Saheeh Sunan An –Nassai 1 : 1215 Rasoolullah (SAW) said, “Allah has angels who travel about the earth. They convey to Me the peace greetings (salaam) from my ummah.” If he is present everywhere then why are angels needed? 7. Rasoolullah (SAW) had once sent 70 of his companions to preach Islam to a certain tribe. The tribe turned hostile and killed all of them only left one small Sahaba to convey this to Rasoolullah (SAW). If Rasoolullah (SAW) had Ilm e Gayb why did he send his Sahaba there. 8. Hazrat Aisha (RA) allegation 9.Aasim ibn Saabit (RA) “O Allah inform our Prophet about our state.” While being martyred in 4 AH (Sahih Bukhari 4:281) 10.Sahih Bukari 8 : 585 “you do not know what innovations they introduced after you.” 11.Quran 58:7 “Seest thou not that Allah doth know (all) that is in the heavens and on earth? There is not a secret consultation between three, but He makes the fourth among them, nor between five but He makes the sixth, nor between fewer nor more, but He is in their midst, wheresoever they be:” It is not “in a group of three my prophet is the fourth and Allah is the fifth - - -
