IM SORRY....WAS THIS IN THE BROCHURE? When in doubt, make a fool of yourself. There is a microscopically thin line between being brilliantly creative and acting like the most gigantic idiot on earth. So what the hell, leap. ~ Cynthia Heimel ;)~ Ouch...Did someone say Alaska? I have to laugh tonight because even though it was colder in the Midwest than it was up here today, you can definitely smell it...and the eerie quiet that is slowly descending upon the State is something totally cool to witness, Ill say that much. I have heard a lot of new D words from people up here like; dreary, depressing, and of course everyones favorite...darkness. At least I havent had to add desperate into any of it so far, and for the most part I dont seem to think its all that bad right now... But I know a little changing of the seasons CANT HOLD US DOWN right? Sure its supposed to rain for the next 2 weeks straight, and the Sun has decided to take a vacation, but really its just like a Nebraska Fall so far. I do dig all the colors, and the Mountains have started to brown up a bit. I learned on the TV that its not because of the cold, but instead its because of the loss of light each day. It continues to go away 5 minutes a day on average, and that is kind of a seriously fast pace for me thats for sure.... I have started to ask some of the Native, and long term, Alaskans questions about whats coming just to try to acclimate to it...Surprises are cool, but 2 feet of snow over night, might not be. I slide questions at them like, Do you think I can make it without slitting my wrists? or stabbing myself in the neck with my pen?...What exactly happens when you get shut in? Is this where the phrase stir crazy began?....What do the animals do for fun?...And what is this cross country skiing thing?...It looks silly Can I drive a snow-machine to work?...Exactly how many layers of clothing is acceptable anyways?...When did you say Spring comes again?.... I dont know why they laugh at me...Im new, and I think they should tell me dont you? I hope you know Im just being silly of course, being a guy that has just spent a winter walking 6 miles a day back and forth into a driving North wind in temps that reached freeze your balls off numbers, in a leather jacket, for $10 dollars an hour, just to survive....I think I will be just fine here in Anchorage, trust me. I did do lots and lots of research into what the winters are like, and they temps in the city are very temperate to say the least...and they have one thing I am very happy to see all over the place around here....Hockey... Still having only seen a brief glimpse of a Moose so far, I will also be thrilled to actually see more of them as they come into town to frolic with the winter activities that abound here. I am actually looking forward to trying my hand at snow-boarding, and rolling down a mountain side as I learn to Ski. And who could forget about the fact that I may even become a world class snowball fighting champion. How bout that! Oh yeah I almost forgot, Dog sledding...That looks cool. It might be my opportunity to finally get that Sarah Palin autograph Ive been wanting to get since I hear she attends a lot of them...Hmmmmm... Again it seems that my possibilities are endless here in the Last Frontier...But just in case I do have the Airlines on speed dial, and Nebraska is only 4000 miles away in case I need a quick break from it all...Truth is my friends, I still love it here, and I really have no complaints. Its been fun, and if life is truly what you make of it, you know my choice will always be to enjoy it rather than hating every bit of it instead... I have plenty of brochures in front of me for those snorkel periscope parka things, and they say you can wear them in the Arctic Circle if you need to...I think I will just choose to stay inside, watch the ever changing beauty of Alaska, and write and write and write... I hope you didnt mind if I just popped some practice stuff out tonight on you, my quote did say to be foolish...and thats one thing I dont need permission, or a brochure, to do... Have a great night & thanks for reading, Lance ;) We continue because....we can youtu.be/wOYB3ccqggI
