IMC workers to stop working at Sangai festival MU NEWS/IMPHAL, Nov 22 : Imphal Municipal Council workers who were assigned for removal of daily garbage generated from the food court and main venue of the ongoing Sangai festival have decided to stop doing so from today after Tourism Department ill-treated the Councillors. Seven councillors have submitted a memorandum to the Principal Secretary (Tourism) Dr Rajesh Kumar in this regard.Similar copy of the memorandum was also sent to Manipur Chief Minister. In the memorandum the councillors alleged that there were serious irregularities committed by the Tourism Directorate or other responsible officials causing humiliation and insult to the councillors and its staff who are discharging their daily duties. Speaking to media persons, Convenor Kh Umesh of the 7 members Committee said the council has tied up with the Organiser of the Sangai Festival following an intervention by the Principal Secretary (Tourism) through Commissioner (MAHUD). The Tourism Department has not issued the Pass Cards for the workers of the council who are working their throughout the days. Seventy workers were assigned for the festival. However security personnel stop them even after they identified themselves. Helpless workers are compelled to step in for their daily cleaning activities after taking entry ticket, he claimed. He also complaint that the tourism department fails to give invitation cards to councilors while it wrongly addressed the name of the IMC Chairperson in his invitation card.
